Find Accommodation near 'The Gwili Railway'

The Bronwydd Arms Station, home of the Gwili Railway is 3 miles north of Carmarthen just off the A484. The journey through the Gwili Valley lasts about 30 minutes and follows the course of the river.

There is a small museum with level access at the station. Access to the platform is via a steep ramp which will require some assistance, however there are plenty of pleasant and helpful (volunteer) staff on hand who will also assist you to board the train.

The acessible train compartment was decorated with genuine William Morris wallpaper by a retired crafts man who is often called upon to work at Prince Charles house in Llandeilo!

Passengers can exit at Dan- y-coed to watch the engine turn round but this is by request only.

The railway also has a catering unit at Llwyfari Cerrig Halt

There are a number of future plans to improve accessibility on the trains which are obviously dependant on funding. They include the removal of walls in their rail car, so that a wheelchair is able to access the main body of the train via the guard’s double doors, and longer term buying another vehicle to be used as an accessible coach on their dining train.

The line is also in the process of being extended once this is complete it will start at Carmarthen.

Since our visit, the railway have added a much shallower and wider boarding ramp (see picture 10).
