Find Accommodation near 'Rutland Water Park'

Rutland Water is the largest man-made lake in Western Europe and the park is set within 4200 acres of open countryside at the heart of the county of Rutland. It offers beautiful lake and countryside views and a wide variety of activities for all visitors to enjoy.

An ideal place to start a visit to the park is at the Sykes Lane Visitor Centre where there are maps and information leaflets about all the attractions on offer at this large site. The adjacent cafe has a ramped entrance and wheelchair access to the end of 4 of the outside tables only.

NB The designated toilet here has very limited internal dimensions which would not allow turning space for larger wheelchairs or room for a carer to assist and the potential right hand lateral transfer is impeded by the baby changing unit.

There are three other main car parks at Barnsdale, Whitwell and Normanton and a hard surfaced trail runs between them all. For information about the section between Sykes lane and Whitwell please click here.

Barnsdale car park has a designated toilet with better internal dimensions, right hand lateral transfer and room for one carer. There is no cafe located here but there is a kiosk serving light refreshments.

There are two car parks at Whitwell one on the left hand side of the entrance road near the harbour where there is a restaurant with its own designated toilet, level access and accessible tables inside and outside. There is also a good sized designated toilet at the watersports centre (RHT) located nearby. The Rutland Belle sails from here for more information on accessibility on board and a link to their website please click here.

The car park on the right hand side of the entrance road also has a designated toilet with limited dimensions and right hand transfer. The adjacent cafe has one step to the entrance. There are two trikes and an adapted tandem cycle (with back support and seat straps) for hire at Rutland Cycles located here for a link to their website please click here

Normanton car park has a designated toilet with room for one carer and right hand lateral transfer but please note there is either a steep slope up or down to the facility from the two sites of the designated disabled parking located in the upper and lower areas of the car park.

There is a restaurant located by the lower car park which has excellent lakeside views and good wheelchair access to both the inside and outside tables. It also has a good sized designated toilet with right hand lateral transfer. There is adjacent designated parking.

A sloping road runs down the side of the restaurant to the water front where there are further designated bays and a rangers office where a motorised scooter is available to loan. Pre-booking is essential for this please ring 01780 686441 for further information. At present there is no charge for the scooter hire but donations are welcomed

Rutland Sailability part of the RYA have regular sailing days in adapted craft from Rutland Sailing Club located at Gibbet Lane, Edith Weston.  For more information on how to take part please click here
