Find Accommodation near 'J&R School of Cooking Masterclasses'

This is an excellent cookery school is situated in a small village approximately 12 miles from Builth Wells on the A483 and is in a very beautiful and picturesque area.

Normally the classes run by the very friendly and multi award winning chef Peter James MBE are held in the restaurant, but as there are several steps to the designated cookery school area Peter has set up an accessible kitchen for wheelchair users and those with mobility needs in the kitchen adjoining the village hall, which is only approximately 50 metres from the restaurant.

Our researchers did the half day taster course preparing and cooking a three course dinner party, working together to learn new skills and re-enforce old ones. Depending on the days theme you may learn to fillet fish, joint poultry or prepare special cuts of meat. You will be cooking with the very best of ingredients which are all locally sourced.

No physical attributes other than being able to use a knife and move and lift pans and small containers are needed. The work surface and portable two ring electric cooker can be adjusted to the height most suitable to you.

Toilets are situated just inside the entrance hall, wheelchair users would find it easier to reverse into the toilets but there is sufficient room for a carer. The gents are a right hand transfer whilst the ladies are a left hand transfer.

If you wanted to visit the restaurant for an award winning dining experience access is possible, it is just the designated cookery school area within the restaurant that is not.

Comments

We had a great day at the school during which we each prepared a three course meal of Butternut Squash Soup, Supreme of Chicken in Leek and Stilton Sauce followed by Flambe Orange in Cointreau. We then all sat in the ante room round the table tasting each others cooking and Peter gave a professional opinion and marks out of 10, we both achieved 9 out of 10! Although we both used the same ingredients there were some variations in the taste, flavour and presentation. by Rob and Linda Hood on 24 July 2013
