Find Accommodation near 'Dinefwr Park'

Dinefwr Park is now owned by the National Trust and is located near Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire. The site includes Newton House, a former Georgian property which was extensively refurbished in the Victorian Era, the surrounding deer park with its reknowned white cattle and the 12th century Dinefwr Castle which is maintained by CADW.

This is a large site with lots to see and do and visitors would be advised to allow plenty of time to explore it fully. Parking for blue badge holders is free and adjacent to the Welcome Cabin information point/ticket office located off the approach road.

From here there is a short wheel/walk up a compacted drive to the entrance to the house. Newton House operates a 'hands on' policy and visitors are encouraged to handle the artefacts located within the building including the piano. Special events days are held at various points in the year,  including reconstructions of life at Newton House during World War Two, when for a short period it was a military hospital. For more information on dates and times please check the National Trust website link above.

At present step free access is limited to the ground floor rooms however permission is being sought to adapt the existing lift for wheelchair access to enable visitors with limited mobility to access the first floor which houses an exhibition about the property.

There is good access to the shop and the restaurant which serves a variety of snacks and light meals. On our researchers visit the friendly and helpful staff were pleased to try to accommodate dietary requirements and the menu included a good selection of gluten free items.

Dinefwr Castle is located on an elevated site within the park and with permission from the hosts within the Welcome Cabin, blue badge holders are able to drive along a gated rough track up to a small parking area within wheeling distance of the castle entrance. Please note that from this car park there is still a short, steeply inclined, track to negotiate and most manual wheelchair users will require fit/able assistance to reach the castle entrance. The views from here over the river and the surrounding countryside are well worth the effort. Access up into the castle ward is over a rough wooden ramp and up a very steep rough incline but again with some fit/able assistance this is achievable.

Also within the park there is vehicular access for blue badge holders down to a small parking area adjacent to an excellent boardwalk. For further information about the accessibility of this trail please click here.
